Vedic Chant & Mantra
In the beginning there was sound. Vibrating primal energy. The throb of potential. The śabda brahman…
The world manifests from source as Nada, sound and through sacred sound we can navigate our way back to source.
Absorbing into sound, uttering the Sacred sounds, the yogini/ yogi is released from the phenomenal world.
The original cosmic dance wove the gunas into buddhi, cosmic intelligence, in turn giving rise to what we call in yoga ‘Ahamkara’ or Identity.
From un-manifest to manifest there is division and identity formation.
The purpose of mantra is to lead you beyond the pancha maya to the domain of the Atma. To take you from the identification with the gross elements back to your essential nature.
The use of mantra helps to de-clutter the mind and reduce Samskaras that bind. ( limiting habitual behaviours) Mantras also offer protection.
Śabda is a sanskrit word which means ‘word’, ‘sound’, ‘speech’, ‘language’. It also means the eternal, primeval sound (synonymous with oṃ.), which underlies all reality.
Śabda is the primal throb.
When you chant well, you alter the breath experiencing many of the benefits of pranayama.
You absorb the sacred Sanskrit sound vibrations and as you reflect on the meaning of the chants and mantras you gain knowledge of the nature of the Universe, and through practice this becomes embodied knowledge giving rise to transcendence of name and form.
Back to source. Back to silence.

Dory Walker
I've dedicated and invested 25 years of learning, study and practise into the transformative power of yoga.
My first introduction to yoga was as a baby when my Dad would chant the Mahamantra to my sister and I at bedtime, it become a mantra that was a feature throughout my childhood.
My first Asana classes were Iyengar yoga but a few years into practice I discovered a teacher who chanted at the beginning and end of class mostly Om Namah Shivaya. I loved it, it opened something inside of me.
Mantra, Japa and Kirtan became a love and central to practice and teaching for years. In 2012 I had an itch to go more deeply into chanting which led me to meeting my teacher Radha Sundarajan whom I took a 2 year Vedic Chant Teacher Training with in the Krishnamacharya lineage and studied with her until her passing in 2021.
Chant and sacred sound is a vehicle for healing and connection. It opens the voice and promotes deep meditative states.
A Bhakti or devotional practice chanting is medicine for the soul.
It promotes elevated states of concentration, heart connection, elevated consciousness, flow states and ultimately connects you to Universal Consciousness and embodied Oneness which is the essence and essential teachings of the Vedas.
I've studied with global leaders, change makers, experts and radical minds who are direct students of some of the worlds leading yoga authorities on asana, pranayama, meditation and Vedic chanting. I have been mentored by incredible woman who are unapologetically claiming all of themselves for limitless living and abundance in all areas.
Teaching yoga full time for over 20 years, I've helped 1000’s of yoga practitioners, trainees and yoga teachers develop and integrate their practice. Whatever I learn and embody I pass on.
My personal Sadhana practice is at the heart of everything I do. My successes are built on the foundations of practice.
Embodied practice.
Transformation from practice can positively shape every aspect of your life. Practice takes many shapes. Chanting is a central Sadhana for me. If you would like to explore chanting and sacred sound or deepen in your chanting Sadhana I can’t wait to share the joy of mantra with you.

”There are yoga teachers and then there are teachers of yoga. Rory belongs to the latter group. In Rory’s classes I always learn something new; and, I really mean always. He teaches ever new ways to get into an asana, ways to become aware of and awaken muscle groups you never knew existed, and to relax and become confident in your body. Rory has a wealth of knowledge of the human body that he’s most skilled in articulating and sharing for a more embodied way of being in the world (not just on the mat).”
AH, Yoga Practitioner
"Having practised yoga for many years, it was a huge relief to find that your professionalism and approach to teaching was in synch with my own and I felt totally at ease and responsive with being a student under your careful and artful guidance. You both are yoga craftsmen."
