Our approach to yoga…

Our method and approach to yoga is marinated in explorative and aligned asana work, often deep and challenging, always looking to allow more space and freedom in the body. Our teaching is infused with Vedic chanting, Patanjali, mantras, meditation and contemplative practices. We have a burning passion for yoga. The practice, the path and inservice of expanding freedom, always underpinned by, 'the observation of Nature reveals truth’.

This translates into a style of teaching that serves our students to the same end. To explore in line with the laws of nature and to allow more spaciousness in all aspects of ourselves through the fire of practise.

Our main asana teacher is Dona Holleman, a direct student of BKS Iyengar (she was his first longterm Western women student). Her approach is also influenced by Jiddhu Krishnamurti, Castenada, Vanda Scaravelli (her friend and mentor), the intricate study of the human body, animals and nature. We work 1-2-1 with Radha Sundararajan our amazing chant teacher. Radha is a direct student of Desikachar, son of Krishnamacharya. There are many others that inspire and influence us but Dona and Radha we work with personally, for this we are eternally humbled and grateful. Swami Sivananda's message has always and continues to inspire.

Our logo symbology…

We wanted to celebrate our name within the visual. As you know a Kutir is a place where study happens - a sanctuary - and these are often depicted as conical buildings of triangular shape. We have incorporated this into our logo mark, visualising our kutir, home and simple dwelling.

We wanted to create a design that oozes energy and therefore found appropriation in yantra symbolism. The interlining triangles and the symmetrical design brings a calm and inviting balance - it's wonderfully aligned and has a richness to it.

By this clever assembly of triangular shapes we also depict SEVEN equally sized triangles around the outer edge of our logo mark - these are symbolic of the seven major chakras of our body.

Another representation of the triangles is to visualise the trifecta of BODY / BREATH / SOUL - and how these three elements play a huge part in the practice of yoga.

The dot or bindu within the mark visualises the beginning, the source of the universe. It also creates a wonderful inner focus to the viewer and the symbol. The choice of gold ties into the Hiranyagarbha - the source of the creation of universe.

We have super subtly shown the alchemic symbols for earth and air that represents nature and enforces our spiritual connection to the world around us.
