the art of asana

I am so excited to share this 3 day training.

Explore new ways to support your students through a comprehensive understanding of asana and the body

Touch is an essential aspect of teaching asana - Body to body communication

An intelligent adjustment is one that enables a student to make the adjustment themselves. You provide the precise contact point to the body - their body responds

Touch is information, it's the language of the body (words are the language of the brain). Touch can confuse, help or un-help

My approach to asana is body first asana second
Knowing exactly how to see the body and understanding the posture is essential for this process

In this three day intensive you’ll learn incredible new techniques, insights and methods you probably haven’t been shown before that are game-changers when it comes to practising and teaching asana

You'll explore innovative use of supports, props (some you haven’t used before) and understand why alot of frequently taught prop use can actually be unhelpful to your students

You’ll come away with a new perspective of how to really see, listen, feel and read the body

You’ll learn 5 codes that you can apply to every asana. Whatever body type your student is, these are human codes so relevant for everyone. With this fundamental understanding, you can teach the essence of a posture to any body type, age, ability. This is key to seamlessly teaching successful ‘All Level’ classes containing a complete range of students

You’ll bring a higher level of service to ALL your students

"There are Yoga teachers and then there are teachers of Yoga. Rory belongs to the latter group… I always learn something new; and, I really mean always. He teaches new ways to get into an asana, ways to become aware of and awaken muscle groups you never knew existed, and to relax and become confident in your body. Rory has a wealth of knowledge of the human body that he’s most skilled in articulating and sharing for a more embodied way of being in the world (not just on the mat)”

What you’ll study

This intensive takes foundational postures from all asana families, asanas your students will want the most support with: standing postures, forward bends, twistings, back arches, seated postures, simple hand balances and some inversions.

This is a hands on immersion - you’re going to work with each other throughout the three days

Rory Viggers: The methods, principles and practices

I’ve spent the past 12 years studying full-time with Dona Holleman, one of the leading world authorities in asana. She is the ultimate Teachers Teacher, most senior international teachers have their roots back to Dona.

I’ve been practising, teaching and refining these methods for the past decade.

asana is my passion, I love supporting teachers and experienced practitioners take their practice to higher levels of understanding and awareness.

Training

This is a one-off training, the only asana training course we will run outside of our 200/500 Hour Teacher Training programmes

This training compresses over a decade of study and practice into three potent days of immersion.

You’ll walk out with new understandings of postures and be equipped with incredible new tools to support your students at an even higher level.

You’ll learn techniques that will make you stand out, build more authority and give you the edge in the depth of support you can offer students.

This course will be a small group to ensure the right numbers for practising and supporting each other

These techniques, principles and methodology absolutely transformed my personal practice and were the catalyst for transforming my teaching skillset to the next levels

I cannot wait to share and support you being even more effective at teaching asana and elevating the level of support you bring to your students practice

Teacher - Rory Viggers

Rory's unique teaching style skilfully enables you to uncover greater depth of awareness and understanding in your practice and teaching. A teachers teacher, his approach is intelligent, passionate, insightful and informed by multi-disciplines.

I’m a direct student of one of the last living greats, Dona Holleman. The Yoga I share has purpose, intention, precision, intelligence and soul. It continues to be informed by all the inspirations in my life, past and current teachers, mentors, trailblazers and most importantly from the precious and essential time in my own daily Sadhana where practice is experimented, informed and integrated.

I’m currently based in South Goa, India and support teachers and long-term practitioners

Date / Time

Friday 6, Saturday 7, Sunday 8 September 2024
9am - 6.30pm

Suitability

This training is open to Yoga Teachers and experienced practitioners who’d like to elevate their asana teaching skills and practice.

It’s open to all Yoga systems (Iyengar, Astanga, Vinyasa, etc)

Who it isn't suitable for - Teacher Trainees
If you're currently enrolled in a 200 hour training course (or a 300 hour training course that involves asana) I would advise against joining.

Your teachers will be teaching you specific ways to practise / adjust / support which will probably be very different to what you’ll experience in this training.

It will just confuse you (and might go against what your teacher is teaching you so will be unhelpful to them and you).

It's always best to stay with one training experience at a time. Then once it's over, take it or leave it.

Location

Central Bristol (Location TBA)

This training will be around 25 hours of hands on practice.
It’s going to be an intensive 3 days so be prepared!

It’s in-person only

If you have any medical conditions or injuries, please consult your GP and contact us to check if this training is suitable for you.

“Rory is an incredible teacher. I learnt so much… I can’t wait to come back & learn some more!”
